Review: English Stand Up Comedy with Dave Thompson

tinky winkySurprisingly it has been more than 2 years since Dave Thompson last headlined a show for Baby Blue Banana in Budapest, though his wife Eva played a sitar concert at Treehugger Dan's in March 2011. Opening the show was Martin Zdarek, who has performed at several Open-Mic shows, as well as appearing at the Gift of the Gab. Although the show was enjoyable, I kind of wish both comedians had kept their pants on. The event was held at a new venue, the Silenus. Considering the location, and that the bar has over 100 different beers available on its menu, a pint of Dreher was a reasonable 550 huf.

I would give Martin an "A for Effort."

Dave is best known for playing Tinky Winky
in the Teletubbies and for making headlines around the world when he lost the role Dave has appeared many times on TV alongside the likes of Harry Hill, Ben Elton and Al Murray, in addition to a long and distinguished career on the live comedy stage.

Dave mixed in some good new stuff with his older routine. Some of his funniest jokes included the suggestion that as we drink with Mexican beer with a slice of lime, we should serve Guinness with a slice of potato;E-Z Jet planes are actually drones being flown by Indians at an IT hub; LA is a lot like Dubai but with a different take on Islam; and just like we save water by putting a brick in the toilet tank, he puts a brick in his gas tank.

Earl Okin will take the stage in mid-November.
