Touring on the 291
I was on Bus 291 from Nyugati the other afternoon and started reading my newspaper, when the bus driver started a running commentary over the loudspeaker. As I was trying to read, at first I was half-annoyed, then half-interested, and finally, fully amused. The driver basically conducted a bus tour on the 291, informing us about our connections and rattling off the sites like the Hungarian Auto Club on the left, such-and-such elementary school or hospital on the right. He also informed us when we were leaving one district and entering another. Some of my fellow passengers typically scowled at the unforgivable and unexpected good cheer, while others shared a secret smile. Yes, you, I saw the corners of your mouth fighting against turning up into a grin! I finally gave up reading and just enjoyed the ride.
