Last weekend we rode our bikes about 30-40 minutes out towards Plisvörösvár/Solymar (road 10 and Bécsi Ut) to pick strawberries at Eperfold. Having seen the 1400 Huf/kg price at the market, imagine our surprise when we saw 435 Huf/kg at the pick-your-own place! If you pick more than 10kg, the price is only 390 Huf/kg. Bring some buckets or baskets. The owners will weigh these before you go in and subtract that weight from your final pickings. I remember picking blueberries in the US, and they weighed the people before and after as well! Not so here. The strawberries were very sweet, and still fairly plentiful. We picked about 3kg, which in turn, made 5-6 jars of jam. On a whim, we also threw in some basil and mint from the balcony into the pot. Bring a good sun hat, buckets, suncream and water.
