Rebel Star and Wooden Ambulance Concert at Potkulcs
A couple weeks ago we went to catch Rebel Star at Potkulcs, a band my friends Mike and Ash have been playing in for awhile. Rebel Star does not often play in Budapest, so it was good to finally see them. Rebel Star had decided on a last minute concert in order to help out fellow Serbian-based band Wooden Ambulance, two of whose members were passing through on a cycling trip across Europe and playing gigs along the way. Unfortunately, this meant that many members of Rebel Star were unavailable on the night.
I liked Rebel Star's new song (I did not catch the name), and one I will call "Dakoj, Dakoj" after the refrain. Wooden Ambulance was a big surprise. Two long-haired Serbian guys in sunglasses in a basement playing a shaker and a guitar that, if possible, looked more battered than Willie Nelson's. The lead singer had a deep scratchy voice like Tom Waits without a hint of an accent until he spoke. I really enjoyed the vibe and the tunes. Best of luck on the bike tour guys!
