The Good Life in Aggtelek National Park Part 92: Bódvaszilas Cabbage Festival

bodvaszilas cabbage festivalWe missed the Fruit Tree Walk again for the third time this year, but luckily were free for the annual Cabbage Festival in Bódvaszilas. The week of rain cleared in time to give us a glorious autumn afternoon. The bunny maze was replaced by a simple bunny cage this year, but the kids still enjoyed cabbage bowling. I immediately bought myself a slice of sweet stuffed cabbage lángos before it ran out. Éva Molnar, one of the organisers of the Tornabarakony Village Day was volunteering as one of the cooks and highly recommended the unusually bacon-free Strapachka - so I had a plate of that too.  The highlight was the performance by the Szendrő Brass Band from the Ujj Viktor Géza Alapfokú Művészeti Iskola, a mixed-age group that played enjoyable renditions of ABBA, Michael Jackson and other '80s favourites. I understand why pálinka was not available, but as I have said in previous years, a big pot of hot tea would have been welcome on these cold autumn days.
