Pilvax Party
Pilvax Magazine, an occassional review dedicated to writersworking in English in Central and Eastern Europe, just launched its 5th issue last night with a garden party at Kértem (Olof Palme Sétány 3) in Varosliget (City Park). All five issues are available at Treehugger Dan's (just the Csengery u. shop). To celebrate the issue, readings were done by writer Chad Faries, and poets Gábor G. Gyukics and Péter Péli. Chad and Gabor have both given a couple readings at Treehugger Dan's.
I am not a real fan of memoirs, biographies and autobiographies, with the exception of Frank McCourt's Angela's Ashes and 'Tis, and Mary Karr's The Liars' Club, however, Chad's memoir is very entertaining. He has been able to publish several chapters in various magazines, but is looking for an agent to help him publish the entire thing if anyone knows someone who knows someone. Wilkinson's Sausages provided the grilled food for the party. If you are looking for quality homemade Bristsh-style sausages, contact Dave at david.wilkinson@chello.hu. I am usually a vegetarian, but lately quite off the wagon, so I ordered a grilled provencal chicken. I got a big slab of chicken breast on a baggette, and although the baggette dwarfed the chicken I thought it was good deal (800 forint) until a second slab suddenly appeared while I was getting my pickles - wow! Musical entertainment was provided by American/Hungarian bluegrass band Szuterén. According to their webpage, their next gig is on April 22. 7pm at the Akusztikus Klub at the Trafó (Ferencváros, corner of Tűzoltó and Liliom u.), and they are well worth checking out. Someone just has to tell them to stop enjoying themselves so much and sing into the microphone ;-)
