Summer on the Chain Bridge
On Saturday, a friend and I went to go check out the now annual Summer on the Chain Bridge (nyar a lanchidon) Fesztival held every weekend from June 23-August 12, when Budapest closes down one of its major bridges over the Danube and stuffs it full of food shacks and arts and crafts stands, and music stages at both ends. This year they have added some nice shaded cast-iron booths.
While drink is not terribly expensive I would advise bringing your own food and water (400 forint for a small bottle of water). We found tocsni/lapcsanka/latkes, otherwise known as potato pancakes -a treat I can never turn down. When asked, they said the price was 300 forint - what a deal! But it turned out to be the price/dk. Delicious, but not for 1500 forint apiece. There is a very interesting photo exhibition hanging on big screens. The photographer has gone to small villages around Hungary and found people that have never been to Budapest, then photographed them in front of a night photograph of the Chain Bridge, as well as a photograph of preparing the photograph. It is hard to describe, but anyway, it is worth seeing. Maybe it was especially interesting to me because I have seen a calendar made by a German photographer who travels the world with a red velure couch and takes pictures of people on it in all sorts of situations. The photographer stayed at my favorite bed and beakfast in Perkupa (Maria Vendeghaz) and photographed one of the daughters on the couch in a cornfield. Wish I knew the guy's name...
