Gay Pride Parade

Always looking for something positive to say...I want to thank the right-wingers for attacking the Gay Pride Parade on Saturday. Until the police helpfully blocked off Csengery u. from traffic around 1pm, I had had virtually no business. But due to this action, approximately 30-40 people were trapped on my side of the fence. Between those that came and took shelter from the egg-tossers, and tourists that did not know what was going on and needed translation with the non-English-speaking police force, I finally started doing some brisk business on Saturday afternoon.

When things calmed down at this end of Andrassy Ut, the streets continued to be blocked off, so I had plenty of time to inventory the 200 new books someone nicely donated, mostly good political and history books. Earlier in the day, due to the precise placement of the riot fence in the bicycle lane, I was able to practice my dulled traffic-dodging skills. So a big thank you to the local authorities for permitting a Gay Pride Parade and 2 right-wing demonstrations at the same time and the same place. With your usual foresight, you helped transform a normally reasonable business day into something phenomenal. By the way, Treehugger Dan's probably has the largest, if not the only selection of gay fiction and gender studies books in Hungary. In fact, we just got in a 2-volume set called Queer Dharma: Voices of Gay Buddhists, and a book on Gay American History.
