Obama Peach Fest

September 23, 2008  Last week I had the pleasure to attend the latest installment of Budapest's monthly English stand-up comedy show, Budsucs. The event is the brainchild of Kinga Kremer. Locals Bret Schaffer and Scott Court warmed us up for Henning Wehn, a German comedian living in the UK. Scott's routine about those selfish sperm and <!-- pagebreak -->eggs was particularly funny. Henning Wehn's whole routine was very funny, and I would look forward to seeing him again. Next show is October 14th. Kinga also runs Indie Attic, a regular event promoting indie bands like The Random Chocolates, Mookie Brando and the Second Cousins, and Aiming for Sunday (check out their new, very professional video - very Matchbox 20). The Random Chocolates and Mookie Brando also played at Peach Fest last Thursday (18th) night at the Merlin Szinhaz, an event to support Barack Obama. Barack means peach in Hungarian. The event was a huge success with over 200 people in attendance. There were a surprising amount of Canadians and Hungarians, but the organisers also registered 30 new American voters. It is very easy to register to vote, and even easier to arrange to vote from Hungary by post. Application forms are available from the US Embassy. Register NOW so you get your absentee ballot in time! If you want more information about the Obama campaign, an Obama t-shirt, voter registration (no matter what your party affiliation), or desire to volunteer, contact Hungary for Obama. It also just happened to be my birthday that night, and it was nice to be surrounded by so many friends. The Random Chocolates learned and played a song for me that I had been suggesting that they play for a long time, the title of which just so happened to match the theme of the political rally as well, "Peaches" by the band, The Presidents of the United States.
