Spring Sunday in Budapest
On Saturday morning I found a home for Kicsi, a place in the countryside with a garden, another mudi-breed dog and a couple cats. From my perspective, though I do not know it from a dog's, it seems a much better life than being kept in a flat for 15+ hours a day. Even after having her for only 2 weeks, I was pretty wrecked after watching her go one way while I went the other. Luckily I have some good friends that kept me busy for the next 2 days. Saturday evening I watched Liverpool win with Bottlehugger Ben at the Longford Pub in the dying seconds of the match. Ben's wife was at the movies, so he dragged me home for a bottle of wine, knowing that I definitely did not want to go home to an empty flat. Ben served up some good turkey chili over fries, and we kicked a couple bottles of red wine while watching the movie Tropic Thunder. I slept on the couch and was pleasantly awoken at 7am by little Abi tickling my feet and Abi, Noah and the dog Pasha jumping on my stomach. Honestly, I enjoyed it. Anita baked up some homemade muffins while I played with the kids, and then I was on my way to squash at <!-- pagebreak -->Marczabanyi ter. I threw out my back on the second point, but that at least allowed me to practice placement so I would not have to run. Two of the 3 Random Chocolates (Mike Kentish and Rich Adkin) were out on Margit Island playing some tunes and invited a bunch of people out for a picnic with them and new bride Tara. It was a fantastic day. Sun, good people, playing with the kids once Ben and his family arrived... The Margit Island experience could be improved by providing more than one toilet for the entire island and the thousands that flock there every day. If the city erects a few more toilets, free toilets, then everyone would be more comfortable during the day, and people would not have to piss and shit around bushes, and the city would not have to pay people to clean this up. But it was a gorgeous day, and the sun was setting before we knew it. I think I got more sun that afternoon than I did all week in Cuba (sun was shining but I was reading in the shade).
On Monday I had to arrange a contract with a doctor for my business (uzemorvos), yet another way various people suck small businesses dry and pocket the money for doing essentially nothing but paperwork. However, while waiting, I found that there is an injection you can have against ticks. When did this happen?! I immediately asked for the details because Europe and Hungary have a huge Lyme-infected tick problem. The shots should be taken once, then again in a month, then after three months, then a year, then every three years. The cost is about 2500 forint each time. Just ask your doctor for the perscription and a dose at the pharmacy. If you cannot go back immediately for the injection, you have to keep the dose in the fridge. I also had to go to the pharmacy because I have a termite problem at my country getaway and needed needles and syringes to inject the anti-termite stuff into the affected wood. I remember 15 years ago wanting to by a needle and syringe to inject a watermellon with rum, but I could not get one without a doctor's order, But to my surprise they immediately handed over 5 needles and a syringe. When I asked if it was really this easy in Hungary, they said they understood what I wanted them for and that I did not look like a druggie. Coo-el. I think I will save a needle for a spiked watermellon or two this summer!
