Concert Report: Mookie Brando and the Second Cousins @ Bobby Söröző
Alt.country legends Mookie Brando and the Second Cousins hit the stage again at Bobby Söröző (1013 Budapest, Pauler u. 10) last Saturday, the 21st. Bobby's is a local for both the cops across the street and local rockers, and is owned by Papa, the drummer from the Second Cosuins. The place gets real smokey, so I was real iffy about going, but I had not seen the full band in concert for awhile and finally dragged myself onto bus 105 and across to the dark side of Buda. I was very glad I did. Mookie had a number of guests on stage with him, and I suspect, the Second Cousins are going to add a couple nephews soon. Mookie's real cousin, Peter Herold was amazing on saxophone. Visiting college student Tucker Heintz on trumpet, in his Grateful dead t-shirt was also great and rounded out the horn section. Christopher Parsons added another good guitar to the regular line-up, and Gabor Bihari (Jazz Apples, Bring) joined in on a couple songs including the lone Hungarian tune in the set, "Szekrényrománc." What can I say, except that it was music for the soul. Mookie even did a rare thing for him, and came out from behind his guitar a couple times.  The entire set was awesome: including some of Mookie's own hits such as "Angelina," and "Mister Cliché;" and some rockin' covers of "To Love Somebody,"

"Love Hurts," "Sweet Child O’ Mine," "Folsom Prison Blues," and "Sympathy for the Devil." And don't forget the cheap drinks - just 400 huf for a pint of Zlaty! Keep the horn section Mookster!
The band is playing next on December 3rd at 8 at a small club called Filter (next door to Almassy ter on the walking street) along with The Random Chocolates.
