Thanksgiving Saturday with the Friedays
I admit it, after 12 years or more of cooking Thanksgiving for 30-40 people with friend Josey Walker, I had had about enough. I thought it was about time someone cooked for me. Rich Adkin and Tara Bedard took up the challenge a few weeks ago for Canadian Thanksgiving, and the Friedays cooked it up this past Saturday. I still contributed my cornbread and arabian squash caserole, but mostly I just relaxed, drank, played with Ben and Anita's kids Noah and Abi. Everyone demands the arabian squash caserole from me every year, even though I don't like it. If anyone wants it, it is in the first Moosewood Cookbook (which in my day was the vegetarian "bible"). I had the best intentions to move on to Killer Dave's going away party, but passed out from a full stomach around midnight on the couch. I woke up with Pasha the dog's ass in my face, and Noah and Abi tickling my feet. It was a lovely evening, and when Abi said "We are family. You, me, mommy, daddy, Noni and Pasha," you could not ask for a better morning. It also somehow made the hangover less painful.
