Naked Woods

If you enter ‘Naked Woods’ into YouTube, the first video that comes up is entitled ‘Half naked man in woods’. I didn’t watch it to see if he hugged any trees, but scrolling down I soon found videos by the Budapest band of a similar name. Naked Woods performed in front of the book shelves with Eszter on vocal duty and Attila on acoustic guitar. Attila’s accomplished and careful playing showed a good deal of sensitivity to Eszter’s voice and after an audience member suggested the microphone be moved closer to her, we could hear her even better. Personally, one of the great things about playing at Treehugger Dan’s is the silence in the room allowing the artist to do what they do, and not battle against the din of conversation. Not that a rowdy pub gig doesn’t have it’s place, but sometimes it’s just nice to sit and listen to the music. A highlight for me was their own composition, ‘Tears’, which was at it’s best with understated guitar and Eszter’s delicate vocal. Among their covers by Nine Inch Nails and Red Hot Chili Peppers was ‘Sunny Road’ by Emiliana Torrini, whose breathy vocal suits Eszter perfectly, with her almost modest approach to singing. A modesty obviously lacking with a half naked man in the woods. Rumour has it that they will play at Treehugger Dan's again in a couple months.
