Thanks Volcano
The suit is getting more and more use, as is the iron, this time thanks to the volcano. For the last week most of the world was paralyzed by air travel meltdown, including a long-lost friend from the US who had planned to come to Budapest last week. Since she had pre-paid tickets for the Romeo and Juliet ballet at the Opera House last Thursday and could not attend, she kindly gave them to me. Thanks Erica!!! The front row center box seats could not have been better. I think the last ballet I attended was in the early 1990's at the Vig Szinhaz, an excellent version of Mikhail Bulgakov's great novel, The Master and Margarita. However, I had never seen a ballet at the Opera House. Not being a ballet expert, I have to rely on my lovely companion's analysis that it was not classical, but very good. In particular there was a "pillow dance" and a "stick dance" that could easily have been adapted from Hungarian folk. The main dancers also had an amazing ability to camouflage themselves in the scenery and suddenly pop up where you least expected them - such as Juliet leaning vertically against a pillar way off to the left, and Romeo blending in to the tree below the balcony. The crowd scenes were like trying to watch a 5-ring circus. The sets were fantastic, as was the view from the balcony outside towards the old Ballet Institute across Andrassy Ut. Our after-party included a nice Merlot from Heimann in Szekszard (whose wines I had tasted at VinCE last month) at the Ket Szerecsen on Nagymezo u.
