The Home Sessions
Last night saw the premier live concert of The Home Sessions, another Budapest supergroup formed, this time, in someone's kitchen. The group consists of 5 guys playing and harmonising from 5 different countries Declan Hannigan on guitar (Ir), Greg Zeigler on guitar and cajon (US), Jerome Li Thiao Te on guitar and violin (Reunion Island), Marco Randria on guitar (Fr) and Sandor Kubicsko on guitar (Hu). With a semi-circle of chairs, shoes off ,beers on the table, and passing around of various instruments, the night had a very relaxed livingroom feeling. Among my favorites were the group's self-written "Vagabond" and "Swing 5," as well as covers of Old Crow Medicine Show's "Wagonwheel," Ray Lamontagne's "Trouble," and Coldplay's "Fix You." I had never heard "Fix You" before and thought it was the group's own. In any case, it gave me goosebumps. It was also a wonderful surprise to hear Jerome and Marco sing. They should do more of it. You never know how much you need a night out of good music until you get some - and last night was one of those nights. Hopefully the Home Sessions will play again in the Autumn.
