Two Thieves Steal the Night
Jamie Howell and Mike Kentish really rocked the stage last night at Treehugger Dan's. I was not sure the audience would ever let them go home. Lots of new faces and quite a few old friends showed up to see the
Two Thieves from the Tea Thieves, who only manage to play together now on the 2-3 times each year Jamie comes back to visit Budapest. Other band members Scottie Fairmont and Todd Warner Moore are not in Europe anymore. Jamie did a brilliant first set of jazz music. To quote Josey Walker, "Man can that guy fucking pick a guitar." Mike then played a short solo set - short only because there is so much material between them that they could play forever and I selfishly wanted to get home before dawn. Given all their amazing individual talent, how could it get any better? The last set was comprised of some great covers like Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill" and ZZ Top's "Cheap Sunglasses." and Tea Thieves originals like my favorite, "When We Were Five," and "F.O.A."
Jamie's solo set included:
- Chameleon (Herbie Hancock)
- There is no greater love (Isham Jones & Marty Symes)
- Recordame (Joe Henderson)
- Free improvisation
- The Chicken (Pee Wee Ellis)
- Beautiful Love (Victor Young)
Mike's solo set included:
- Empty Heaven (Michael Kentish)
- The Happy Goth (The Divine Comedy)
- Treading Water (Michael Kentish)
- Andy Warhol (David Bowie)
- The Trip, The Bell & The Salutation (Michael Kentish)
