Morzsa Records Collective: Concert Review

morzsaOver the years, members of the Morzsa Records Collective have performed together in various formations including Madame Yeti Woman, Americanacht, and sometimes the Heartstring Stranglers. Thursday's line-up included the usual suspects Zoltan Gluck, Freddie Schulze and Jerome Li Thiao Te with the addition of Endre Barz on percussion. It may not have begun as planned, but the night quickly settled into three sets of songs: anger, love, and remorse.  Zoltan Gluck kicked it off with a few lovely finger-picking blues songs on guitar and banjo. The rest of the collective joined in as soon as Freddie returned with replacement guitar strings. Stand-out songs of the night included Freddie's "K in the Rafters" and "Office Window," and Zoltan's "The Gun Beneath my Bed." Endre was solid on the cajon and shaker, while Jerome again proved that "have fiddle will travel." He can jump in anywhere and anytime and pick up the songs in a few seconds to come up with a great melody to accompany the tune. The boys, in particular the interaction between Zoltan and Freddie on stage, is entertaining in itself. In fact, one guest commented that they should have their own radio show. I suggested Bike Talk . It was also a learning experience, as Freddie went into his French WWI song "La Boucherie d'Henri"written in Texas that while WWI was the Great War, the War of 1898 was the OK War, and the War of 1848 was the Mediocre War. A lesson learned was that perhaps I should keep some emergency guitar strings in the shop.
