Pioneering Pub

taskaradio esszpresszoI think I am going to hang out with French travel writers more often. First she introduced me to La Petit Francais, now Taskaradio. The place is named after the old AM/FM radios we used to take to the beach or on picnics that years later evolved into "boom boxes." Although I found the prices slightly high for food, you can go just to drink and the decor and friendly service make it well worth the trip. For anyone who remembers the times that we now term "retro," for those who have lived or still live in a Hungarian flat that has not been redecorated since Communist times, or you are a former Young Pioneer or Little Drummer; step in, let your shoulders relax and gleefully go back in time. The pub is all-out decorated with 1970s Eastern Bloc retro kitsch: black & white photographs from the 50s-70s, 70's lamps, old LPs, televison sets, toys, dolls, furniture, all nicely presented in an uncluttered way, I taskaradiowish I could do the designer justice. The waiters are dressed as Young Pioneers, and ours was quite friendly. Perhaps the best part was the music. For those that hate techno and love funk/soul/disco music, this is the place for you. My only complaint was our frustration with much of the music organised in non-stop medlies. Just as we were getting into a tune, the medly would move on.
