Stephen Grant Standup Review

stephen grantUK Comedian Stephen Grant returned to Budapest last Thursday and put on another very funny show. It must be the third or fourth time I have seen him. In fact, he was the first stand-up comedian I had ever seen anywhere, back when Kinga Kremer brought him to Budapest a few years ago. While there was some older material, there was lots of good new material, too. However, I have a basic problem with comedians going around the room, asking where someone is from and then making jokes about their country. I know this is very common, but I still find it cheap. Most of Stephen's show was along these lines, but I did not find my hackles being raised so much because he was very funny in the process. It is also consistent with his winning the prestigious Chortle Compere of the Year Award in February; the first person ever to win that award twice, proving that he is one of comedy's best improvisers. Knowing how funny Stephen is, for my taste I would like to hear more proper jokes and less compere when he hopefully returns for another show. I'll be there.
