Pentecost Weekend at Balaton

hullam hostel balaton I accompanied a couple families over the long weekend for a stay at the Hullam Hostel in Revfulop. The hostel, virtually across from the train station, has very friendly staff, is child-friendly, has a beautiful big garden area to sun or play in, bike rental and of course a full bar. The live blues music was a lot of fun on Saturday night, and dinner was available on both Saturday (bogracs) and Sunday (grilled chicken, pork, 2 salads) nights. hullam hostel balaton

The first day we cycled to and swam at a small beach in Balatonszepezd. The second day we hit a great almost empty sandy beach in Zanka, which was very shallow and good for the kids. The last day we went to another nice beach in Palkove (beware, not much shade here). Even though the water was very nice, the kids could not convince the other adults to go in with them, so it was left to me. I enjoyed teaching the kids to swim, though at times I felt I was going cross-eyed trying to watch all five at the same time. My tale of David the Friendly Octopus on went so far in detering the kids from flipping over their inner-tubes. One morning while reading a New Yorker, the kids were fascinated by the photo article on many world leaders, and I found myself trying to explain geo-politics and plate tectonics (with 2 napkins) to 6 year olds. Another thing I was impressed with was that the recommended Gomba Restaurant in Revfulop immediately brought out coloring sheets and a box of crayons for the kids even before we got the menus.
