Stand-Up Comedy Show Review: Kevin Hayes
The September Baby Blue Banana standup comedy show moved back to Smiley's, with Dave Thompson resuming the mantle of MC. Irish Headliner Kevin Hayes put on a very good show. With numerous TV credits to his name and even a regular column in Ireland's biggest newspaper, The Irish Post, Kevin Hayes has been one of Ireland's top comedy talents for almost 20 years. It took me a few minutes to get used to his accent, and him a little while to get used to the palinka shots audience members were buying for him. One said while handing him a palinka on stage, "An Irishman who has never had palnika...now this ought to be funny." And indeed he was. The jokes concentrated on religion, which I always enjoy. I especially liked his gags about the Popemobile (he gets 2" thick bullet proof glass for protection, be we are not allowed any protection?), The Scientologists (they came to Ireland - what, Ireland needs ANOTHER religion?), and Pope John Paul II getting to the gates of heaven and being told there is no one there by the name of god, "hey Allah, someone's at the door for you." I am sure he could have gone on for some time on other subjects as well but he ran out of time - hopefully he will return. Tickets for Baby Blue Banana comedy shows will now also be available for pre-purchase at Treehugger Dan's on Csengery u.
