The Random Chocolates Don't Make The World Go Around, But They Certainly Make The Trip Worthwhile
First of all, congratulations to Rich and Tara on the birth of their twins Max and Jules earlier this week. Since Rich will be otherwise occupied for some time now saving up for the twins' college fund, my favorite band The Random Chocolates held their last gig for the foreseeable future. For the 16 days before the gig, drummer David Asztalos posted the originals to some of the covers the choks regularly perform. I may be biased, but the choks do them all so much better. In fact, I would not even think of listening to the originals. A couple new covers were introduced to their repertoire, such as "The Slow Descent into Alcoholism" (The New Pornographers), and "We're Going to Be Friends" (The White Stripes) performed as a surprise by David and Mike for Rich and Tara and broadcast to Tara and the twins in the hospital over video phone - my how the world has changed. Another surprise was the debut of David's new song, "Feel Like Home." This versatile musician should be encouraged to do a solo gig sometime.
