The Pickle Song

pickle songI had just finished my food shopping at Hunyadi ter market this Saturday when I ran into Bob Jaxon of the Poosta Ramblers, and his daughter Sophia. Bob starts waving a half-eaten pickle stuffed with sauerkraut at me and says, "Man, you have got to try these pickles!" Having just explained to Brian Scoffield over the weekend who Arlo Guthrie is, I could not help but start singing "I don't want a pickle, I just want to ride on my motor-cycle..." Listen

I used to teach this song to my English classes. You can find two women selling pickled vegetables at the market. This is the only place you seem to be able to find fresh dill as well. While they are not happy about it, they will sell you the dill without the pickles. And if you go around the back side of their stalls, there is a big cage filled with the most enormous squash before it gets grated and soaked in vinegar.

The Poosta Ramblers are playing at Treehugger Dan's on November 17.
