the waterboysIt is hard to believe 2 weeks have passed since the last Goldfish Sessions at Potkulcs. The boys were in good form. Everyone is becoming more comfortable on stage and with each other, and the night is becoming a bit more of a jam with people just grabbing instruments and joining in as needed. Almost everyone took turns on the drum. Brian Scoffield debuted two new songs - "The Garden Song," and "Simplicity." I think "Simplicity" may be the best he has written yet. The whole band played on a number of songs, including Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart," which is quickly becoming their signature song. They also did "20th Century Boy" by T. Rex, The Jam's "That's Entertainment" (which always makes me think of the 1974 MGM movie), and Elvis' "Suspicious Minds." Ash had some guitar strap issues for some reason, but we at least all now know which side he hangs on. The highlight of the show was Ash performing The Waterboy's "Medicine Bow." I never thought I would hear any Waterboys songs live - it was a great treat! Audience participation is improving - on a couple occasions, audience members like Paddy were invited on stage because they remembered the words better than the band. Chris Parsons also took a rare turn at vocals, but unfortunately I could not make out anything because the guitar levels were set too high. Give it another shot Chris!
