Balatonalmadi Season Opener

szt gyorgyhegyI did far too much drinking, eating, reading and sunbathing this long holiday weekend but it was all worth it. Nori and Akos invited me down with them and a few more of their friends to Balatonalmadi. The weather was fantastic. There was a big bogracs of wild boar, while I had a great homemade vegetarian pizza. The next morning I made a batch of my famous banana pancakes with some fig jam I made last year. We took a walk along the shore in Almadi. Laliba's langos stand is not open yet, but the fish stalls and icecream places are. On Saturday we went to the food and flea market in Almadi. There were a lot of interesting things on sale like a beatle-shaped shoe remover. Then it was off to Szt. Gyorgyhegy where one of Akos' relatives has a small vineyard. While I prefer dry wines, the half-sweet olaszrizling was perfect for a few froccses in the sun with an unbeatable view of Balaton on three sides. There is also a massive antique shop on the outskirts of Tapolca called the Csigo Malom (Gyulakeszi, Kossuth Lajos u. 109). I have never seen such a collection of furniture, glassware, trunks, pianos with attached candle holders...All told, a great season opener at Balaton.
