Punkosd at Balaton

laraWhat is now an annual Pentecost trip to Lake Balaton and a stay in the amazingly friendly and perfectly located Hullam Hostel (Revfulop) was another success last weekend. We were 23 in total, more than half of whom were kids. Friday night we arrived late, put the kids to bed and drank until we passed out. Saturday we went to a beach we liked last year in Zanka. The water is still too cold to be comfortable, but not horrible. But the langos was good and the beer was cold. The Hullam Hostel staff prepared a big wild boar stew in a bogracs for dinner, while Noah and I had a cheese pizza from the local Gomba Restaurant. Sunday we went in the other direction, but because the bike path peters out for a bit and we had many children uncertain on their bikes, we stopped in Palkove for the day. We got rained on, and it was cold, but we also had a lot of time in the sun. Dinner was paprikas chicken and pasta, again served up by the hostel. The place not only has a cool bar and nice staff, it is more or less across the street from the beach in Revfulop. There is a big clean grassy garden for the kids to run around in, and a big bird statue to climb on. You can also rent bikes here. With such a big group, we had the entire back building to ourselves. On Monday we headed back to Zanka, where the weather was at times rainy and at times sunny. The whole weekend the kids were jumping on me, in particular, 2-year old Sammy and 3-year old Lara. I did not get much reading done, but managed to finish a couple New Yorkers and a Wired magazine.
