Wellness Saturday

chris parsons and treehugger dan romai partI met Lydia at the Hunyadi ter market for some food shopping on Saturday. I bought the makings for pesto and chili, along with some blueberries for freezing so that I could have blueberry pancakes even in winter. After dumping the stuff off at home, I met up with Lydia and Chris and we cycled up to a strand/beach they had found recently near Romai part. The "wellness" beach was connected to and in back of the Nebro Restaurant (Piroska u. 3-5). A bit pricey at 3300 huf (Szechenyi and others are in downtown Budapest at equivalent prices, but they also include the sauna and jacuzzi in the price), it has a swimming pool and a fun pool, lots of clean grass and many lounge chairs and umbrellas. However, you have to get there earlier than the 12:30 or so that we got there in order to snag the comforts. The pools were beautifully cold in the 39 C heat. While a hosszulepes is a reasonable 310 huf, an esspresso is 510, pohar of beer 570 and korso for 810...best to pack your own drinks. There are plenty of changing rooms and showers, but for some reason only one hard to locate unlabled toilet. It was crowded, but not so full as having to lay on top of each other. I then introduced Chris and Lydia to Fellini's where we had a nice cold Kriek beer. We stopped for lunch at the mediocre Nyarfas Kavehaz and enjoyed the view of the river for awhile before moving on. I showed them my recent discovery of the Obuda Gas Factory building estate before cycling home.
