Canadian Thanksgiving

My friend Josey and I have been cooking American Thanksgiving for 30-40 people each year for the past 10+ years, so it was nice finally being cooked for at my first Canadian Thanksgiving this Sunday.  They had basted the bird in maple syrup and palinka, yumm!  Along with the turkey we had spinach salad, Arabian squash casserole, gravy, dressing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and chocolate chip cookies. It was an excellent and relaxing evening.Read more »

Cycling Balaton Part 3 of 3

Breakfast is available at the Kovirag from 8:30, but one should note that the Kovirag is only open on weekends. If you are not staying there, knock on the door of the kitchen from the road outside and they will open the gate for you. Cycling Balaton Part 2 of 3

Bottlehugger had recommended a good pastry shop in Csopak, so we headed there first for some coffee and to lighten the load. Season Opener at Treehugger Dan's Bookstore & Lounge

The summer months are quiet at THD's because it is high season for bike rentals, and the 50+ bikes are a bitch to move every Thursday. But Autumn 2009 is upon us, and we had our season opening event last night, featuring a concert by The Jazz Apples. This is now the second time they have played at THD's, and they have obviously been putting some practice time in.Read more »

A Hedonist in the Cellar

On the purchase of my flat last year, after renting 20 places in 18 years (including 6.5 years in one place), an ex-girlfriend gave me Jay McInerney's book, A Hedonist in the Cellar. She was overjoyed to find a book this bookman had not read, and one so appropriate to my newest passion in life, wine.Read more »
