Weekend in Siofok
I have hated and despised Siofok since coming to Hungary. If you love gich and techno music and feeling like a sardine, it is the place for you, but not for me. This weekend, thankfully, was different. I went down to a rented house near Siofok in Balatonszeplak with Bottlehugger Ben, his family and several other families.Read more »
Hunyadi ter, the center of my Budapest universe
Why are we trying to save Hunyadi ter from the corrupt and idiotic 6th District Council and Mayor’s Office? First and foremost, it is the only green lung left downtown besides Nagymezo u. (which the 6th District is likewise aggressively trying to deforest). The playground is always full of kids, and the old plane tress are lovely.Read more »

Farmers Milk at Jaszai Mari ter
Returning back to Pest after out swimming in the outdoor 50m pool at the Csazar Baths next to Komjadi yesterday, I passed by Jaszai Mari ter. Maybe you can bring your own refillable bottle - not sure, but worthwhile to ask.Read more »
Ignite! Budapest
May 28th saw the premier of Ignite Budapest, the first time in fact an Ignite! event has been held in Central and Eastern Europe. If you had five minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? This is the concept behind Ignite, an evening of short talks on various topics by different local speakers.Read more »

Balaton Swim and Ikon Vineyard
For the past 2 months or so I have been going to the gym again. I am tired of playing squash, skiing, cycling, or even just getting out of bed and hurting my back, knee, calf, whatever. I trying to get into shape, and as a goal, with my friend Kevin, we are aiming to do the Balaton Swim this summer. There is the 3.4km version across the bay, and the longer 5.4km swim which we will be doing. So far we are up to 2.5km a day in the pool, but it is very different in open water.Read more »
